We currently have these classes available:

- Pauline's Stashbusters Club

- Sheila's Quilt Party

Here's how to take an online class with us.

We have two options, pre-recorded classes and live 'zoom' classes. On this page we will explain how the live zoom classes work.

Live 'Zoom' Classes

These are classes where we teach you live over the internet. We use the zoom software to run these classes, as it offers great features and is easy to use.

How do I connect to the class?

When you register we will send you a link to the class 'meeting' on zoom. We email this again to you the day before the class and an hour before.

If you don't receive the meeting link, make sure you check your 'spam' or 'junk' email folder, and if it is still not there, contact us straight away and we will make sure you get the link.

To access the class, click on the link in the email. This will open up the Zoom software and take you to our class meeting.

When do I join the class?

For a half day or full day class, we open the meeting about ten minutes early so that you can get settled.

For a shorter class, just join at the advertised time.

What happens when I click on the link to join?

Your device will open the Zoom software, and we will see that you are waiting to join. There will be a message saying 'Waiting for the host to start the meeting'.

We will then let you in, and you will be able to see us on your screen. You will also see anyone else who is in the class and sharing their camera.

For a short class, you will hear a message saying the meeting is being recorded. This is so that we can make the class available to you to watch afterwards. For longer classes, we will not be recording.

Do I have to turn on my camera?

No, we don't have to see you if you don't want us to.

Turning on your camera means that we can see you, and so can the other students in the class, so it makes it easy if you like to be social.

To turn the camera on, click on the camera icon in the bottom left of your Zoom screen.

Do I mute myself?

For small groups (up to about 5 or 6 people), it's OK to stay unmuted unless you have a lot of noise going on in the background like TV's dogs, husbands etc. In a larger group, or if you are sewing, please keep yourself muted until you would like to speak.

How do I unmute my microphone?

Click on the icon in the bottom left to mute and unmute your microphone. Also you can keep yourself on mute, but use the spacebar to temporarily unmute yourself.

How do I ask a question?

There are three ways to ask a question,

1. Use your microphone to speak. If there are a lot of people present, it's easiest to click on the Raise My Hand button and wait to be called on

2. Type in the chat window.

3. Send the tutor a direct message

What are the reaction buttons?

You can use these to react to something someone is showing, or to raise your hand if you have a question, they are fun to use.

What is the Chat window?

The chat button opens up a window where you can type a message for everyone, or for just one person.

Will I still be able to watch the lesson afterwards?

You will have access to the teaching videos for the class afterwards, so whenever you want to come back and continue your project you will have a reminder of what to do.

Can I practice using Zoom?

Yes you can! Just go to www.zoom.us, create a free account and then you can start a personal meeting to test your system.
